Q4 2026 Β· HEALTH INSURANCE Β· CALL CENTERS By William Shivers Β· CallCentersForHire.com
Every year there’s a stretch on the calendar where the phones in this industry don’t just ring. They scream. We are in it right now.
I’ve been around call centers and leads for more than thirty years, and I can tell you the last quarter of the year is when health insurance call centers make or break their entire year.
Not their month.
Their year.
Mark your calendar
Two enrollment seasons, one crowded calendar
Medicare AEP
October 15 through December 7, 2026, for 2027 coverage.
ACA Open Enrollment
November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027 on HealthCare.gov. Some state exchanges run later.
Medicare Advantage OEP
January 1 through March 31, 2027, for people already in a Medicare Advantage plan who want to switch.
Look closely at November 1 through December 7. Medicare and ACA running at the same time.
Seniors shopping.
Families shopping.
Self-employed people shopping.
Everybody calling.
That’s a double-barrel season, and it only happens once a year.
Why this year feels bigger
Some of it is simple math. That’s a lot of people with a decision to make.
And some of it is change. Plans shift every year. Premiums move. Benefits get added and cut. Carriers enter and leave markets. For 2027, some state programs are already warning members to expect larger premium changes than in prior years and to watch for carriers that won’t be back.
I’ve learned one thing over three decades:
When the letter in the mailbox says your plan is changing, people pick up the phone.
They want a licensed human being who can compare options and walk them through it. That’s the call center.
Fifty-four days that pay the bills
AEP is 54 days long. Industry operators commonly report that peak days can bring three to five times normal call volume, and some Medicare-focused centers say this one window accounts for the majority of their annual revenue.
Read that again.
The majority of the year’s revenue, in less than two months.
That’s why every unanswered call, every idle licensed agent and every bad batch of leads hurts so much more right now. There’s no making it up in February.
The window closes on schedule whether you’re ready or not.
The marketplace has changed underneath us
Here’s what most people outside our industry never see. Behind every enrollment call is a chain of businesses:
Data providers
Opted-in consumers ready to shop.
Media publishers
Search, social, TV and web traffic.
Ping tree providers
Real-time routing to the right buyer.
Call centers
Licensed agents who close the deal.
For years, that chain was clunky. You knew a guy who knew a guy. You sent an insertion order, crossed your fingers and hoped the leads were real and the invoice got paid.
That’s changing fast. Data providers and media publishers are plugging straight into ping trees, and ping tree platforms like ZinTree are putting more verticals on a single ping tree than this industry has ever seen. Health insurance. Medicare. ACA. Final expense. And well beyond.
A buyer can scale up hard on health during enrollment season, then pivot into other verticals in the spring without starting over with new vendors. And a seller can route every lead and every live transfer to a buyer who actually wants it, instead of watching good inventory die because it didn’t fit one campaign’s filter.
More verticals means fewer wasted leads. Fewer wasted leads means more money for everyone at the table.
Rushing is when people get burned
Here’s the dark side of a boom. When demand spikes, people get in a hurry. Buyers grab whatever volume they can find. Sellers take on buyers they’ve never worked with.
And that’s exactly when I’ve watched good companies get hurt. Recycled leads. Disputed transfers. Invoices that never get paid. A “partner” who disappears in January.
That’s why trust is the real product in this business. Buyers and sellers working through our marketplaces do it Data Monster Protected:
Data Monster turns 20 years old next year. We’ve been through a lot of enrollment seasons. We’re not going anywhere in January.
The window is open. Right now.
If you run a health insurance call center, this is your season.
If you’re a publisher or data provider, this is the best time of year to have inventory, and the worst time of year to sell it to someone you can’t trust. Either way, the clock started on October 15.

Enrollment dates referenced are for the 2027 coverage year. Some state-run ACA exchanges set their own deadlines. Call centers selling health insurance or Medicare plans should follow all applicable CMS, state and telemarketing rules.
